Digital Citizenship Lesson

With the continuous use of technology, both in and out of the classroom, we hold the responsibility to keep kids safe online. I believe that in making our students responsible digital citizens, we instill in them the understanding that the online world is real. One instance of digital citizenship is Cyberbullying. Indeed, the online world isn't the place where they can go and disrespect others and say anything without repercussions. As an Educational Technology Specialist, I provide digital citizenship sessions for students in the upper elementary classes (Grades 3 - 5). For these lessons, I use Common Sense Education scope and sequence to guide my instruction and topic selections.

HP Reveal App for Scavenger Hunt Activity

For the lesson "The Power of Words", I created a scavenger hunt activity for students to complete as a formative assessment (exit ticket) at the end of the lesson. Students will enjoy reflecting on what they learned through this unique scavenger hunt using augmented reality. Here is what the students will do in this activity:

  • Visit each station sheet with the exit ticket questions and write down their answer choice.

  • Open the HP Reveal (formerly Aurasma) app on their iPad and scan each of the station sheets to obtain letters that will be used to solve a riddle.

  • Obtain riddle letters through pointing the iPads at the station sheet using the HP Reveal app.

  • Once all the riddle letters are collected, students are asked to rearrange the letters obtained to solve the riddle " When I am filled I can point the way, When I am empty Nothing moves me, I have two skins One without and one within. What word am I?

_____ _____ _____ _____ _____ "

Below you can find pictures of the station sheets for this activity. Feel free to download and reuse them:
